The Sonshine Philippines Movement was born in June 2005, during an episode of one of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy's programs, "Give Us This Day". He envisioned it as the Kingdom's massive movement for change, embracing its Ministry to the Poor programs and other societal concerns.

The Ministry to the Poor began in 1995 when Pastor Apollo saw the need the help the country's impoverished children. The Children's Joy Foundation was established for this purpose. Thereafter, different associations were formed, including the Pag-asa ng Buhay Association, which reached out to victims of disasters and calamities; the Handog ng Pagmamahal Association, which provides free medical and dental services in remote areas of the country; the Alay Sa May kapansanan Association, which gives assistance to physically challenged individuals; and the Life Giver Association, which conducts livelihood training seminars throughout the country.

Today all these fall under the umbrella of the Sonshine Philippines Movement.
